Making Dentists Partners in Youth Suicide Prevention

Campi Dental is proud to support the groundbreaking program, Making Dentists Partners in Youth Suicide Prevention, through the Campi Cares initiative. This important training equips dental professionals to recognize signs of mental health struggles in adolescent patients and take meaningful steps toward intervention. Founded in partnership with the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide (SPTS), this program will empower dental teams across the country to become allies in mental health advocacy. Campi Dental is pioneering this initiative as the first dental practice to be fully trained and deeply committed to the well-being of our patients. This initiative reflects our belief that oral health professionals have a critical role to play in supporting youth in crisis.

At Campi Dental, we believe that caring for our patients goes far beyond oral health. Through our Campi Cares initiative, we’re proud to be one of the first practices in the country to support Making Dentists Partners in Youth Suicide Prevention—a groundbreaking program that equips dental professionals to recognize early warning signs of mental health struggles in adolescent patients.STAFF

Why the Dental Profession?

Dentists often see patients more frequently than primary care providers, especially during childhood and teenage years. That face-to-face time provides a unique opportunity to notice changes in behavior, appearance, or mood. By empowering dental professionals to understand the warning signs of depression and suicide, we can become a critical line of support for young people who may be struggling in silence.

About the Program

This initiative was developed in partnership with the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide (SPTS), a nationally recognized organization dedicated to reducing youth suicide through public awareness, education, and advocacy. The training includes educational modules, conversation techniques, and practical tools that help dental teams engage with patients in a supportive, non-invasive way—without overstepping their role.

The goal is not to diagnose, but to create a safe, observant environment where potential issues can be gently acknowledged and, when necessary, referred to mental health professionals.

Our Role at Campi Dental

At Campi Dental, our team has undergone specialized training through this program to become more informed, empathetic, and proactive when it comes to our young patients’ overall well-being. Whether it’s noticing signs of withdrawal, self-harm, anxiety, or sudden shifts in behavior, we are committed to being mindful observers and compassionate allies.

Our involvement in this initiative also extends to raising awareness within the broader dental community. We regularly share resources with other providers and advocate for this type of education to be standard across dental practices nationwide.

A Commitment to Community Well-Being

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among adolescents in the U.S., and yet many families are unaware that their dental provider can play a role in early intervention. By participating in this program, Campi Dental is helping to break the stigma around mental health and promote a more holistic, human-centered approach to care.

This initiative is a deeply meaningful extension of our mission. Through Campi Cares, we continue to support not only healthy smiles—but healthy lives.
